Last night, I was lucky enough to go to the press night of Cinderella at The Palladium. I have not seen a Panto in forever, and the past two years I have actually been performing in them! They have previously not been my favourite form of theatre to go and watch, but it is a British tradition around christmas time, so any excuse to get festive and have a trip to the Palladium on this exciting night!
The Qdos Production featured celebrity names including Paul O’Grady as The Wicked Stepmother, Julian Clary as Dandini (Prince Charming’s right hand man) and Amanda Holden as The Fairy Godmother. The title role was played by the very talented Natasha J Barnes.
I was pleasantly surprised! This pantomime truly was a true spectacle! With extravagant costumes, flying carriages and a star studded cast, no expense was spared! It really did wow and surprise the audience! Not to mention the excellent ensemble who pirouetted and tapped there way throughout the show!
The performance was FULL on innuendos, some slapstick comedy and brilliant ventriloquism from Paul Zerdin, who for me, held the show together in his role as Buttons. He managed to capture the classic feeling of Pantomime with his audience interaction and loveable portrayal of Buttons as well as WOWING us with Sam, his puppet! The British born winner of the 2015 America’s Got Talent showed us how ventriloquism is REALLY done!
Overall, I really enjoyed Cinderella! I laughed a LOT, as did the rest of the audience! If you are looking to watch a Panto in London this December, expect a lot of adult humour, some incredible vocals, as well as some seriously amazed faces in the audience when you see some of Julian Clary’s costumes!
